Doors Open Richmond

Doors Open Richmond is a free annual celebration that showcases the diverse, multicultural places and communities of the City of Richmond in British Columbia. Each year since it was launched by the Richmond Museum in 2008, it has seen a large number of visitors exploring Richmond’s most popular museums, cultural organizations, and much more.

The Sea Island Heritage Society has been participating in Doors Open Richmond since 2021. Each year, the Richmond Museum partners with select sites to produce exclusive video content for its event. In 2021, the Richmond Museum partnered with the Society and produced a video titled Doors Open 2021: Sea Island Heritage Society where you can learn about the society’s diverse collection of local Sea Island artefacts, historical documents, and images that feature iconic landmarks and fascinating pioneer family trees.

Open House

Up to 2019, the Society held a dual AGM and Open House event until Covid changed things. Now, each June, since the Society obtained a “locale” at the Sea Island School in Burkeville (2023), we continue to participate in Doors Open Richmond, an event that has become a de facto “Open House” where everyone is welcome to visit and learn about the heritage of Sea Island.
